TIPO COLÔMBIA   Performance Series  2006     “Papum tipo Colômbia, Papum tipo Colômbia”    Mc frank    one of the most popular Brazilian Carioca´s Funk singer Mc Frank have a song titled Tipo ColômbiaI,i n English Colombian Type; the lyrics describes how his life as a drug dealer and armed favela's macho is similar to what Colombia is like for him. Stereotyping Colombians as men who lives out from drugs trafficking, sheltering families with guns and taking part in the guerilla’s violence the song uses indiscriminately images divulged by media, enforcing preconceived ideas to excuse a hard reality. Helped by the main stereotypes images of the Colombian as drug dealers and the Brazilian as a transgender, well propagated by the media about brazilians, Monroy creates three performance pieces, each one of this deals  with humor, appropriation and visual resemblance to what is expected of the other to be.

Based on the coincidence Monroy decided to  I asked each spectator to lend him Brazilian bill  currency where He stamped the text  “ …or 0 Colombian pesos ” appropriating Cildo Meireles'   Zero Dollars piece.  After stamping the bills, roll and putting them in a silver plate, Monroy's drawer with flour a picture of Farina, a Colombian Reggaeton singer,  resembling Helio Oticica's  Cosmo Cocas  were done .  Finally Monroy gave back the bills inviteing the public to sniff the best quality Colombian farinha.

   TRA 8mm or TRAVESTIFICANTE   Performance with Tamara de Andrade  Duration approx. 30 minutes   In partnership with the artist Tamara de Andrade, Monroy took over a main door of an official building from the University of São Paulo closing the entrance to the public. Both artist were wearing high hills and camouflage pants. At the main entrance they face each other standing at opposites sides of the glass door, resembling a mirroring image. Both passed some lipstick and started kissing each other while writing with the kisses. The first three letters TRA were done synchronised, after Monroy started to wrote TRAVESTI and Andrade wrote TRAFICANTE words in Portuguese for transgender and drug dealer respectively. The text were only possible to read from the opposite site from which was written.
